Description
A Crop Share Contract is an agreement between a landowner and a farmer under which the farmer works the land and the resulting crop is shared between both parties, typically based on a predetermined percentage. Unlike a cash lease, this arrangement ties the landowner’s return directly to the farm’s productivity.
The contract defines each party’s responsibilities—such as who provides seed, equipment, fertilizer, and labor—as well as crop types, acreage, expected yields, marketing rights, and cost-sharing details for inputs like irrigation and pest control. Harvest timing, storage, sales strategy, and profit distribution mechanisms are also specified.
For landowners, this agreement offers a share of potential upside while remaining involved in key decisions. For farmers, it reduces upfront cash outlay and spreads risk in poor-yield seasons.
The contract may also include clauses for government subsidy compliance, environmental conservation, damage liabilities, and dispute resolution.
